Happy Love a Tree Day! There are many ways to celebrate this fine nature-inspired holiday. You can hug a tree, plant a tree, hike amongst trees, or donate money to a charity that supports trees. Do you love trees? What’s your favorite tree? Let’s explore some fun ways to celebrate this holiday and get outside with friends, family, and even the neighbors!

Educate Children About Trees

To celebrate National Love a Tree Day on May 16th, make an opportunity to teach children the importance of these magnificent plants and their positive effects on our environment. Children learn through tactile experiences, so, ideally, you can take them to a local park or forest where they can see and touch trees to appreciate their presence fully.

Plant Trees

What better way to celebrate this important holiday than by planting things that help sustain life but are under threat globally? As trees grow, they draw carbon dioxide from the air while storing carbon in themselves/the soil, a process that lessens climate change. In this process, they release oxygen into the atmosphere, providing a life source back to us.

Some charitable organizations will plant a tree in memory of a loved one or as a gift with a donation.

Hug a Tree So All Can See!

Hugging a tree may feel a bit weird at first, but it can actually help support a healthy state of mind. Like hugging a friend, when you wrap your arms around a living tree, your body may release natural hormones that make you experience feelings of happiness. Your mood may improve, and you’ll likely feel more relaxed. Pick a time to unleash your inner tree-hugger when your neighbors are watching, so you can invite them to help you celebrate.

Give a Tree a Drink

Particularly when a tree is young, its roots need regular, long soakings to survive. During long periods of drought, all ages of trees will benefit from some extra watering. However, providing too much water too often can encourage more canopy growth than the tree species, climate, and soil can support when there is no drought.
